When it comes to the American Bullfrog, the Male is the only frog of the male and female bullfrogs that does indeed call out, sound or croak. The male bullfrog will usually start to call out with its very LOUD, DEEP, BASSY BELLO call sound when the day starts to turn into dusk. The sound that the male bullfrog makes is a call or sound or croak that is used to attract the female bullfrog for mating. Mating season usually only lasts 2-3 months, May to roughly July during the spring and early summer months when the outside temperatures warm up to a regular daily warmer or hot temps and perfect for the male bullfrog to call out, sound or croak for his female as this is what they male will do to attract her. This varies depending on where in the USA you live and may happen earlier if you live in warmer climates like in the south. If you notice you may see a pattern in the frog hunting or gigging season across the USA States and that is that in "most" of the states that do have an actual frog hunting season vrs open season all year long is that the season doesn't open up until a bit later in the spring or early summer to allow the bullfrogs their mating season. This allows for more and more bullfrogs in the future seasons but on the other hand, bullfrogs are an invasive species and we thought that they were better off if they were in lower numbers,......but oh well, frog hunting and gigging is SUPER fun and big fat frog legs are super yummy,....especially fried. |
